The classical Hamiltonian \(H=L_ z+M_ z+L_ xM_ x\) in the reduced phase space of L and M variables is investigated numerically, confirming the suggestions of the KAM theory according to which the motion should be regular if \(L^ 2\) and \(M^ 2\) are either very small or very large. It also turns out that intermediate values of \(L^ 2\) and \(M^ 2\) lead to chaotic motion. Results for the quantized version of this model, which involves only finite matrices, are announced.
