Building on previous work of \textit{A. Camacho} [see e.g. ''Societies and social decision functions'' (1982; Zbl 0505.90001)], we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a cardinal utility function to represent, through summation, a preference relation on sequences of alternatives.
