The standard Lagrange inversion formula is generalized. A specific algebraic and operator technique and terminology is developed. In these terms the standard notions of residues, Jacobians, chain rule and duality are explained. The role of these notions is clarified in the Lagrange inversion. A comparison with some recent results is given.
