Using an approximation method new proofs are given for some Hahn-Banach theorems due to \textit{B. Anger} and \textit{J. Lembcke} [Math. Ann. 209, 127- 151 (1974; Zbl 0268.46006) and Math. Scand. 47, 251-265 (1980; Zbl 0427.46004)]. As shown in a subsequent paper [Arch. Math. 45, 463-467 (1985; Zbl 0555.46005)] the method can be used to obtain approximation and extension theorems for convex functions.
