A simple way to design a linear, steady controller is proposed for a plant described by a hyperbolic system of equations with partial derivatives which form a mathematical model of an ideal displacement apparatus. The controller is shown to be optimal with respect to a quadratic functional that indicates clearly the requirements for the process-control system.
