The authors model the number of survivors in a battle by the stochastic (ITO) version of the well known Lanchester system or ordinary differential equations. Results of simulations using this model and simulations using a bivariate Markovian death process are given and compared. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of the implications of the simulation results and some possible avenues for further research.
