The model of a body is presented, the mechanical properties of which depend on the strain rates so that the stress-strain diagrams for uniaxial dynamic loading with the constant strain rate are straight lines. A comparison with the known experimental data is carried out. It is shown that for a series of materials (bone, polyethylene, fluoroplast and some other polymers) perfect coincidences are obtained for a variety of strain rates in a wide range. The model describes the behaviour of materials which is usually attributed to their hereditary properties. The propagation of longitudinal waves in semi-infinite bars is discussed. The problems are solved when the bar's edge begins to move by the given law. The solutions of these problems represent acceleration wave.
