The f-prime radical of a near-ring N is characterized in terms of f- strongly nilpotent elements (f a suitable function from N to the set of the ideals of N [see \textit{K. Murata}, \textit{Y. Kurata}, \textit{H. Marubayashi}, Osaka J. Math. 6, 291-301 (1969; Zbl 0216.339)]). Elementary connections between prime and f-prime ideals are given.
