The article is a transcript of an informal talk given by the author. He discusses a number of fundamental ideas in mathematical physics. One is the combinatorial origin of metrics via random walks (diffusion). Another is a connection of the latter with quantum theory. Also, implications for nonlinear maps and dynamical systems are conjectured.
