Estimates for the inverse of the discrete Jacobian matrices associated with finite difference approximations to nonlinear two-point and elliptic equations are given. Both uniform and non-uniform grids are considered. The main motivation for this analysis is to study the convergence of Newton's method, although the authors do not discuss that issue in this paper.
