A simple, deterministic cellular automaton, studied in depth by \textit{O. Martin}, \textit{A. M. Odlyzko}, and \textit{S. Wolfram} [Commun. Math. Phys. 93, 219-258 (1984; Zbl 0564.68038)] is reconsidered in terms of (Ising) spin variables. Alternative proofs are given for several lemmas, and attention is drawn to the striking time evolution of the system with \(N=2^ k\) spins, where \(k=1,2,3,... \).
