A sublattice of the Leech lattice (Q1076062)

A sublattice of the Leech lattice \(\Lambda_{24}\) is of type n if each vector in it has squared length at least 2n. \(\Lambda_{24}\) is its own maximal type 2 sublattice, and it is not hard to show that there is a maximal type 4 sublattice of the form \(2(E_ 8\oplus E_ 8\oplus E_ 8)\). In the present paper the authors construct a maximal type 3 sublattice using properties of the binary and ternary Golay codes.
