Thermal stability of a layer of exothermic chemically reactive material exposed to time-periodic heating on one surface while the other surface is kept at a constant temperature has been studied. A perturbation analysis is performed when the activation energy parameter and the amplitude of oscillation are small. It is shown that for sufficiently small values of \(\beta\) (activation energy parameter) the opposing influence of finite activation energy and periodic surface heating on the stability of the layer cancel each other at moderate values of amplitude and frequency.
