The author considers the Givone-Roesser type 2-D local state-space model and its associated bivariate transfer matrix. He then considers the problem of decoupling the 2-D system, i.e. force the transfer matrix of the feedback system to be non-singular and diagonal via application of dynamic state feedback. However, the author concludes that his proposed procedure does not ensure the properness of the rational transfer matrices characterizing the dynamic controllers.
