For the interval versions of Schulz's method [\textit{G. Schulz}, Iterative Berechnung der reziproken Matrix. Z. Angew. Math. Mech. 13, 57-59 (1933)] for bounding the inverse of a matrix a necessary and a sufficient criterion for the monotonicity is derived. In particular, it is proved that the procedures developed by \textit{G. Alefeld} and the author [Elektron. Datenverarbeitung 1970, 410-416 (1970; Zbl 0199.497)] in many cases compute monotone sequences.
