Using a recent result of \textit{C. Castaing} and \textit{P. Clauzure} [Trav. Sém. Anal. Convexe 11, Montpellier 1980, Exp. No.15 (1981); also published in Acta Math. Vietnam 7, No.2, 139-170 (1984; Zbl 0557.49005)] on the lower semicontinuity of integral functionals, we prove the existence of an optimal control for a broad class of nonlinear infinite- dimensional control systems. An example of a distributed parameter system is worked out in detail.
