The reviewer does not feel the necessity of introducing 'modified Laguerre polynomials' \(L_{a,b,m,n}(x)\), owing to the fact \(L_{a,b,m,n}(x)=b^ n L_ n^{(m-1)}(ax/b)\), where \(L_ n^{(\alpha)}(x)\) are the well-known Laguerre polynomials. Consequently the present group-theoretic discussion is the same as that done by \textit{E. B. McBride} [Obtaining generating functions (1971; Zbl 0215.434)] save for change of parameter and variable.
