The methods of nonstandard analysis are used to investigate a system of equations for the Green functions of the meson fields with interaction. This gives a mathematical foundation to a procedure employed by \textit{S. F. Edwards} and \textit{R. E Peierls} [Proc. Roy. Soc. London A 224, 24-33 (1954; Zbl 0057.435)] to solve Schwinger equations.
