The concept of ''L-fuzzy proximity space'' is defined as a generalization of \textit{A. K. Katsaras}' concept of proximity space [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 75, 571-583 (1980; Zbl 0443.54006)]. A characterization of these L-fuzzy proximity spaces is given (Theorem 3.2) and several of their topological properties are pointed out.
