In his book ''A Mathematical Theory of Evidence'' (1976; Zbl 0359.62002) \textit{G. Shafer} defined weight of evidence and weight of internal conflict for separable support functions. In this paper the author shows that these definitions can be carried over to all support functions, an extension which Shafer had shown to be possible if a certain conjecture was true. In the present context this conjecture is seen to be unnecessary.
