A system describing the motion of a viscous, chemically active fluid in the field of a temperature gradient is investigated. One determines the number of stationary solutions and their stability in dependence on certain physical parameters. In the case when the fluid fills up an infinite horizontal layer, conditions for the emergence of convective solutions corresponding to rectangular cells are discussed. The stability domain of the solution, describing the state of equilibrium, is computed numerically.
