We analyze the phenomenon of regression of the number of rolls in a finite two-dimensional vertical sheath of fluid, and with the help of a few variables model, we show the existence of relaxation oscillations - some of them with periodic reversal of the sign of the fluid rotation inside the rolls - and of sequences of bifurcations leading to aperiodic regimes.
