Oscillations of a system of two coaxial cylinders with liquid between them (Q1081448)

The problem of the oscillations of a system of two cylinders with liquid between them is considered. Analytic expressions for the fundamental physical characteristics of the oscillations of such a system are obtained by approximate methods. We note that the assumptions usually made about the smallness of the amplitude of the oscillations and the specified law of motion of one cylinder with respect to the other are unacceptable in this case, as the amplitude of the oscillations can be commensurate with the size of the gap and the law of oscillations cannot be specified arbitrarily since it is determined by the conditions of the process. Systems with fixed and free outer cylinders are considered.
