The article presents a mathematical formulation of linear dynamic optimization problems associated with specialization in the machine- building industry, such as the problem of centralized manufacturing of general-purpose engineering products, the problem of equipment repair versus replacement, and the problem of centralized equipment repair facilities. Optimal growth paths are described and conditions under which specialization is economically justified are discussed.
