The author presents a very clearly presented exposition of the necessary and sufficient conditions that identify when an element of the form \(y^ ax^ by^ c\) is in the center of a metacyclic group \(G=<x,y>\) in terms of the defining relations. As a corollary for a particular case in which Z(G) is cyclic, the generator is identified.
