The influence of constant perturbations on saddle connections, generated by vector fields on the plane, is studied on the basis of the well-known Melnikov method. The criterion for existence of perturbation which breaks a given saddle-connecting orbit is established. The polynomial vector fields are analyzed to illustrate the main result.
