General relativity still offers many interesting problems where classical tools like the Newman-Penrose formalism (NP) can be used. Here the solution and the NP asymptotic equations are investigated and related to the evolution of the physical bound system under study. Global expressions for energy, momentum and angular momentum in terms of multipole moments are applied. For the radiation effects on a two-body system an iteration procedure is implemented to an accuracy that includes the effects of radiation taking contributions up to octopole order. The advantages of the approach are also indicated.
