The similarity solutions of the unsteady laminar incompressible two- dimensional and axisymmetric boundary layer equations for the case of a surface which moves with a velocity which varies inversely as a linear function of time have been obtained. The governing equations have been solved numerically using the quasilinearization method with Runge-Kutta- Gill subroutine. It is found that the effects of unsteadiness in the wall velocity and mass transfer on the skin friction and heat transfer parameters are appreciable. The Prandtl number strongly affects the heat transfer, but the skin friction is unaffected by it.
