In this paper a one-phase porous medium is considered within the nonlinear theory proposed by \textit{G. Szefer} [Symp. Franco-Polonais, Probl. nonlinear Mech., Cracovie (1977)]. Among the other things by requiring for the fundamental system of equations the existence of exceptional waves, as usual in several nonlinear theories, we are able to characterize possible classes of constitutive laws for the elastic response functions and the porosity of the medium.
