The paper presents the minimum reinforcement solution for the square simply-supported uniformly loaded torsionless grillage, satisfying Rozvany's conditions for minimum moment-volume, for the case where minimum bending strength is specified. The solution only covers a limited range of load magnitudes, but in the development of the moment field the use of lines of load transfer and of the bimoment equation are illustrated. The minimum moment-volume is quite close to that for a simple practical design, which has a relatively unsophisticated moment field and which can cope with any magnitude of load.
