A study of Hamiltonian systems with constraints is made, with particular emphasis on relating the various classical notions to symplectic manifolds and the differential geometry of cotangent bundles. Thus both local coordinates and coordinate-free notations are used. Holonomic and anholonomic constraints are studied, and both time-dependent and time- independent systems. Constraints are given by differential 1-forms on phase space
