The authors derive a necessary and sufficient condition for factorial orthogonality in presence of covariates. In the absence of factorial interactions, combinatorial characterizations of the conditions are derived in terms of a typical level combination in place of proportional frequency criterion in a conventional set up. The results are verified by an example taking two factors only.
