The author examines the elastic state of bodies having periodic strain in a number of directions. It is shown that the displacements satisfy a ''semi-periodicity'' condition. A reciprocal theorem and a work-energy theorem are derived and discussed. The paper is theoretical. It is likely to be of greatest interest and use to theoreticians working in linear elasticity.
