A method of determination of the stress intensity factors in the case of a radial cut in a dielectric cylinder placed in the field of a plane electromagnetic wave is presented. Use is made of the Wiliams technique adapted in the first part of the paper to dynamic stress field problems. The second part is devoted to the analysis of the coexisting state of static stress. The normal and in-plane shear stress intensity factors are evaluated being proportional to two unknows of the infinite system of algebraic equations obtained from boundary conditions.
