The paper deals with a theoretical study of the problem of scattering of Rayleigh waves due to the presence of a rigid plane barrier in a shallow ocean. Fourier transform and the Wiener-Hopf technique is the method of solution. The waves scattered at the edge of the barrier are found to behave as cylindrical waves decaying rapidly at distant points. Near the scatterer the scattered field has the behaviour of reflected plane waves with large amplitudes.
