To include the inertia effects, a new iteration process is proposed. The velocity component transverse to the fluid film is evaluated with the help of the momentum equation transverse to the fluid film. An extended Reynolds equation which includes the inertia effects is thus obtained. The inertia effects are then studied for one-dimensional journal bearings. It is shown that the inertia correction is of the order of \(h^ 3\) and is proportional to \(\rho U^ 2\).
