Using contemporary concepts of clinical radiobiology, a mathematical model of radiation therapy is designed which includes two different subpopulations of cancer cells. With the help of Lagrangian multipliers, analytical (in the simplest case) and numerical solutions are shown for the problem of optimal treatment control. Optimal procedures for fractionated radiation are studied with various redistribution dynamics of the tumor cells. Possible applications of the modeling results are discussed.
