An interesting connection is shown between the problem of smoothing noisy data and the nonrecursive digital filters (NDF). It is shown that NDF's perform the same operation if their digital transfer function is maximally flat at \(\Omega =0\) and have minimum energy. Alternate solutions to obtain closed forms are presented.
