The present paper deals with a mathematical treatment of stimulated Raman-scattering. The solution of certain nonlinear initial value problems [used by \textit{K. Drühl}, \textit{R. G. Wenzel} and \textit{J. L. Carlsten}, Phys. Rev. Lett. 51, 1171-1174 (1983)] allows to explain, how in the damped case a soliton may occur. Some properties of these solitons are then investigated.
