The characteristics associated with a simple model of fluid-particle dispersed flow which includes particle volume changes is investigated. This model reduces to the well-known single-pressure model in the absence of such volume changes. It is found, in contrast to the single-pressure model, that the characteristics associated with the model under discussion herein are always real.
