With the help of symplectic geometry, the author introduces the Hamiltonian formulation for the Einstein generalized Born-Infeld theory. The field equations split into constraint and dynamical equations. The initial value problem is analyzed and gauge variables and canonical variables are identified. The connection between gauge variables and the action of symmetry groups is discussed.
