The authors treat a parabolic optimal control problem, the background of which is the optimal heating of a rod. A consistent semi- (time-) discrete approximation of the original problem is given and convergence properties with respect to the associated minizing functional are shown. To achieve strong convergence with respect to control the authors applicate the regularization method of \textit{A. N. Tikhonov} and \textit{V. Ya. Arsenin} [Methods for the solution of ill-posed problems (1979; Zbl 0499.65030)].
