    A CAD system, implemented on a powerful desktop computer, has been developed which integrates the functions of drafting, meshed surface modelling, and finite element analysis in that order. The surface modeller derives its input from orthographic views of a two-dimensional engineering drawing of plate/shell structures and the geometric data for the model is translated into a suitable form for a finite element analysis application program.
