This article explains in greater detail how the Barnes identities for Gaussian sums over the finite field \(\mathbb F\) were obtained in earlier papers of the author [Sémin. Delange-Pisot-Poitou, 19e Année 1977/78, Théor. des Nombres, Fasc. 1, Exp. No. 22 (1978; Zbl 0464.12010); C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. A 286, 297--300 (1978; Zbl 0373.12009)] by studying the Gelfand-Graev representation of \(\mathrm{GL}(2, \mathbb F)\).
