Let \(p\geq 5\) be a prime, k a field of characteristic p and G a p-solvable group. The authors show that if M, N are simple kG-modules in the same block, then \(Ext^{2n}_{kG}(M,N)\neq 0\) for some \(n<| G/{\mathcal O}_{p'}(G)| /p\). An example shows that the conclusion can fail for non-p-solvable groups.
