The authors consider the problem of the growth of the cathode during electrodeposition for a specific electroplating problem, and give a numerical solution using the boundary element method. They suggest that, because the Bulter-Volmer equation is nonlinear, and the geometry of the problem is continually changing, this method is more suitable than finite differences and finite elements.
