For the interpolation by spherical harmonics of a fixed degree \(\mu\) on \(S^ 2\) it is favorable to use nodes which are equidistributed on some parallel near the equator. The degree of the parallel can be selected optimally, in some sense, the resulting operator has norm not exceeding \(0.85\mu^{3/4}\) for large \(\mu\).
