The work is devoted to the problem of determining whether K(E,F), the space of compact operators from a Banach space E to a Banach space F, is proximinal in B(E,F), the corresponding space of bounded linear operators. In particular, this problem for the case when \(E=C(x)\) and \(F=C(y)\) are the usual function spaces over compact Hausdorff spaces x and y is solved.
