A detailed analysis of the spacetime content of string-type field theories is presented. We rigorously explain the appearance of \(D=10\) and \(D=26\), and argue that they are naturally contained in \(D=32\). Our results suggest a new way to the compactification of the \(D=10\) fermionic string and possible new (fermionic) models for \(D=4\), \(D=6\) and \(D=18\). Some connected aspects are also discussed.
