We give three elementary definitions of the value of a game of pursuit and evasion in an arbitrary metric space. Our definitions are independent from the theory of differential games. We prove that the three definitions yield the same value of the game, and we study this value as a function of the initial positions of the players and their velocities. Several open problems are stated.
